The session was framed to discuss the content and process of value education. The concepts delivered in the form of proposals which are to be verified on the basis of natural acceptance. The speaker discussed the role of education in improving competence to live with definite human conduct. He emphasized on the role of shiksha-sanskar develop definite conduct of human being and role of education in the transformation from animal consciousness to human consciousness. He explained the process of self-exploration in detail and elaborated the concept of proactive, active and reactive stages of thoughts and behaviour. He helped the participants to explore ‘what I am’ and ‘what I naturally want to be’. If there is an alignment between the two, one can live in harmony. Mr. Jadhav unfolded the concept of happiness as the state/situation in which ‘I’ live, if there is harmony in it then ‘I’ like to be in that state/situation or to be in state of liking is happiness. He explained three sources of happiness as –
(Ii-a) expectation of these feelings from others
(ii-b) ensuring these feelings with in ‘self’ and
Expected sensations from body.
The continuity of happiness is possible only with the right understanding in the ‘self’ and ensuring right feelings with in ‘self’. The speaker introduced the meaning of prosperity as the feeling of having more than required physical facilities. This feeling require two things: (1) identification of correct needs and (2) the skills to produce more than required. Value education makes an individual able to understand and identify his needs. The ultimate human goal is Happiness and Prosperity in continuity. To achieve this goal one has to understand the Harmony at four different levels. Harmony in Individual emphasizes the co-existence of ‘Self and Body’. In self activities are continuous where as in body, the activities are temporary. The methodologies of fulfilling the needs of both are different and should be addressed separately. The self is a consciousness unit whereas body is a material is unit, so the needs of self will be fulfilled by right understanding and right feelings whereas the needs of body will be fulfilled by physiochemical things. Body is an instrument of self and self is seer, doer and enjoyer. Harmony in Family is introduced as the co-existence of nine different feelings- Trust, Respect, Affection, Care, Guidance, Reverence, Glory, Gratitude, and Love: Trust being the foundational value and Love being the complete value. Justice can be ensured in every family by recognizing and fulfilling these nine feelings. Harmony in Society is reflected in the co-existence of four human comprehensive goals: right understanding in every individual and prosperity in every family, fearlessness in society and co-existence with nature. To achieve these comprehensive human goals one has to work on five dimensions: Education-Sanskar, Swasthya-Sanyam, Production-Work, Justice-Suraksha and Exchange-Storage. He explained education as to develop the right understanding of the harmony at all levels of our living. The commitment, preparation and practice of living in harmony at all levels are sanskar. He elaborated the process of building up of sanskar of a child and emphasized the importance of the role of shiksha-sanskar in this process. Harmony in Nature is reflected as co-existence of four orders with the help of mutual fulfilment and mutual enrichment. Mr. Jadhav summarized that the three orders of nature: material, plant and animal orders are related to each other and are mutually fulfilling. He differentiates all four orders based on units, activities, innateness, natural characteristics and inheritance. The natural characteristic of human order is perseverance, bravery & generosity. The inheritance of human order is based on Education-Sanskaar, which emphasize the important role of education. He focused on the fact that only human order is swatantra in their karma. The speaker unfolded the last level of harmony: harmony in existence. Existence consists of units & space. All units are submerged in space. Every unit is energized, self-organized and participating in the co-existence of other unit. Space provides the scope to every unit of performing the activities. He sums up by emphasizing the co-existence present at every level of existence. Existence is co-existence. Right understanding is to understand this co-existence at every level. The outcome of right understanding is Bliss, Satisfaction, Peace & Happiness at individual level. For others, we can ensure daya, kripa and karuna. While doing this one has to perform with perseverance, bravery, generosity. The ultimate role of human is to understand, think, behave & work based on co-existence. It will lead to definite-conduct of human order.
